If you were looking for a guide to get started with herbs or if you’re a herbalist who wants to expand your knowledge, then the book Herbal Medicine and Botanical Medical fads would be a good place to start.
It is an easy-to-use handbook with comprehensive information. Not only is it a reference book with more than 100 entries on herbs from alfalfa to yellow dock (each featuring a herb’s historical background and popular and practical uses), the book also has listings and essays on subjects from alternative medicine to food preparation and nutrition to herbs used in wedding celebrations.
Published by Haworth Press, the book by Frank Hoffman and Martin Manning also has interesting information on association such as International Herb Association and the American Spice Trade Assocation. Also listed is some interesting information about the New World Tapestry and Herbs.
Contact information is also provided for the various associations.
The appendix contains a list of the various herbs and their applications so one can see at a glance how a particular herb can be used.
While this isn’t a glossy, colourful book, it is a good reference book to have handy for whenever one wants to look up information on a particular herb and is useful to have handy.
