Lesson 3 - Thermogenic Herbs

Thursday, June 2nd 2011 @ 12:35 AM (not yet rated)    post viewed 491 times

Thermogenic herbs are what stimulates your body’s metabolism to burn fat faster.
Many weight loss products will contain caffeine as a thermogenic, however the disadvantage of caffeine is that it has side effects of nervousness and anxiety if too much is consumed.
Herbal thermogenics are safer and probably more effective than products containing caffeine.

  • Green Tea - This is a natural stimulant that is similar to coffee but with the added benefit of vitamin C and flavoniods  and catechins (both compounds that are antioxidants). Catechins increase metabolism and the ability to stimulate fat burning. The strength of the stimulant can be regulated by steeping the tea quickly or for a long time. Green tea can be purchased in a tea bag or as loose tea. It also is available in capsules for those who don’t like the taste, but is thought to be better assimilated as a liquid. Green tea can be consumed cold and blended with other ingredients to make a smoothie and also enhance the taste. Green tea also contains caffeine

Cayenne – This spice is one of the strongest stimulants known to man. It contains an ingredient known as capsaicin that increases metabolism as well as stimulating saliva and digestion. Cayenne can be purchased as a supplement at health food stores so it can be consumed without feeling the burning spice in the mouth.

  • Ginger - This root works as a stimulant by slowly moving through the gastrointestinal tract and energizing the bloodstream. It has long been known to aid metabolism and help promote weight loss. Ginger root also improves the movement of gas, which helps reduce bloating by moving food out of the stomach and aiding digestion. The root has commonly been used to prevent nausea and vomiting, and as a spice for cooking. Other popular uses include using ginger as a spice for tea, and as a remedy for excessive perspiration. Ginger contains small amounts of natural calcium, magnesium, potassium and iron.
  • Cumin - This warming herb is a natural stimulant that has many other benefits as well.
It is anti-septic for the respiratory system, is good for abdominal pain (especially in infants), boosts the waste excretion from the body and strengthens the immune system.

Make Cumin Tea to Increase Metabolism

Cumin Tea
1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
1 cup of filtered water in a container

Heat the mixture till the water starts boiling. Reduce the heat, and allow simmering for about 2-3 minutes.
Remove from heat, cover the container for ten minutes. Now, the cumin tea is ready for drinking. You can add a pinch of salt, a pinch of giner and some honey or stevia to enhance the taste. Drink cumin tea a couple of times a day to boost metabolism and benefit from its healing properties.
